What are we doing?
This organization is to be a video production nonprofit charity with the purpose of documenting, education and entertainment based on the wooden boat building artists in the Mystic CT area. The means of distribution of the content is through a YouTube video platform and this web site developed for the show which will give more in depth information about the locations, on screen personnel, and the charity aspects of the organization.
Our mission is to create a nonprofit organization (501c3) dedicated to the advancement of the understanding of wooden boat technology, education of the technical and art of wooden boat construction, maintenance, and rebuilding techniques utilizing video documentation of these activities in an archivable format for public access. The secondary mission is to raise funds for projects to help offset the costs of specific projects worthy of restoration. This would include rare, historic, or aesthetically unique vessels, and to promote education of the boat building and repair of wooden craft to local youth.
Wooden boat building is an ancient artform that changed the course of humanity. Before the advent of petro-chemicals, wood was the material of commerce and exploration. The practice of creating and upkeeping wooden boats is in decline. The majority of todays youth hasn't been exposed to the craft of the wooden boat since wooden boats are becoming rare. We need to inspire a new generation to take up this ancient art form. In the future, petro chemical made boating materials may become too cost prohibitve to use. Wooden boat building may be the key to using our water world.
